Source notes & limitations

CDC/NCHS trends table, Adults column: % of adults who are current cigarette smokers, NHIS survey years only (sparse; blank cells are gaps). Current smoker defined as >=100 lifetime cigarettes and currently smoking. Page retired in the CDC site redesign, and the original address (www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/tables/trends/cig_smoking/index.htm) is now a 404 — the citation therefore names the Internet Archive snapshot of 2018-11-13, which is what was actually transcribed and what a reader can actually reach. The snapshot was confirmed sha256-identical to the archived copy in samples/ on 2026-09-01. This 404 had been invisible: cdc.gov 403s browser-like agents, so the checker classified the dead link as merely bot-blocked until link_check gained its plain-agent retry. The 2006 adults cell reads 20.8 here; the American Lung Association compilation of the same NHIS (source cdc-nhis-smoking-prevalence) reads 20.6 — the difference is a compilation revision, disclosed rather than reconciled.

Where this source appears

0 records across 0 decades and countries. Documented gaps are included; a source cited for a gap does not establish a value.

0 of 0 records have a current source audit. A transcription check reads a declared numeric field from a pinned local source file; a calculation replay reads its operands and applies the declared method and rounding rule. A source audit does not independently validate the source or every claim in a record. The date is the last successful local audit; the build checks that its bindings still match.
